I stumbled across Lukas Gage on Dead Boy Detectives at the start of 2024 and was immediately enticed by his sensual and enigmatic performance as Cat King. Then the show went and got canceled, which left me devasted for a moment before I moved on. Fast forward to the end of the year and I finally had some time to sit down and check out Smile 2. Right away, I spotted a familiar face that I didn't expect to see in a horror production. Lukas's role, while sadly shorter than I would've wanted, completely shifted the expectations I had of him. Gone was the flirtatious and sexy cat and entered the mentally unstable and face-twisted drug dealer (which is still kinda sexy, who am I kidding). Afterward, I dug further into his filmography and discovered this underrated rom-com where he played a flamboyant himbo who accidentally got involved in a murder? And it was co-written by him as well? I was officially sold on Lukas Gage. It's still mind-boggling to me that a man of this much range and that good-looking isn't bigger in the industry. Hollywood needs to cast him in more big-budget main roles. Like seriously, to quote Stan Twitter, GIVE THE KHIA A CHANCE!😭😭😭

tbth i think my favourite part of smile 2 is how utterly fucking sad joel looked in the opening. i mean kyle gallner's performance was definitely part of it like he's a legit fantastic actor but a good chunk was just how fucking crestfallen this lad was. you don't even need context for the first film. like. look at him.
